How to Prepare Your Mix

Before You Send:

  • Organize your session (clear track names)

  • Bounce stems properly (sample rate, bit depth)

  • Include reference tracks (2-3 songs)

  • Write clear notes about vision/goals

  • Make sure all edits/timing is locked

File Organization:

  • Naming conventions: [Song][Instrument][Version]

  • Folder structure: Stems / References / Notes

  • What to include: DI tracks, MIDI, vocal takes

  • What NOT to include: Reverb/delay tails (unless intentional)

Communication:

  • What I need to know upfront

  • How to describe what you're hearing

  • Reference track do's and don'ts

  • Feedback best practices

Common Mistakes:

  • Sending MP3s instead of WAV

  • Forgetting to bounce from bar 1

  • Over-processing stems (let the mixer mix)

  • No reference tracks (I'm guessing your vision)
