Mixing vs. Mastering

What is Mixing? Taking your individual tracks (vocals, guitars, drums, etc.) and blending them into a cohesive stereo mix. This is where balance, space, dynamics, and emotion get shaped.

What is Mastering? Taking your final mix and preparing it for distribution. Mastering adds final polish, ensures it translates across systems, and makes it loud enough to compete commercially.

Do You Need Both? Yes, if you want professional results. Mixing is sculpting. Mastering is framing and hanging on the wall.

Order: Always mix first, master last. Never skip mastering if you're releasing commercially.

Can the Same Person Do Both? Sometimes, but fresh ears help. I can refer you to trusted mastering engineers.
